Outdoor Flea Market, 10am-5pm
Concessions On-Site
A two-day outdoor flea market and Carrico Implement’s Ride & Drive event is set for this weekend at the Plainville Saddle Club Arena just west of the K-18 and US HWY 183 intersection. Nearly 30 vendors are expected for the event beginning 9am on Saturday.
“Jewelry, tools, baked goods and crafts are just a few of the wares for sale this weekend,” stated Barbara Shute. “We’ve experienced tremendous growth since our first year. We’re hopeful for better weather too since we moved it to the end of the month.”
Concessions will be available on-site. Along with the food vendors, Carrico will demonstrate its Big Green Egg, a ceramic smoker and grill.
According to Shute vendors are coming from as far as Fort Riley for the event. There will be Tupperware, homemade items, henna tattoos and home accessories, including home accessories made out of deer antlers by an artist from Damar.
Complementing the flea market is Carrico Implement’s Ride & Drive event. The public can try out compact tractors, mowers and the new 2010 Skid Steer Loaders with all the attachments. They can even test drive them on actual projects planned for the arena that day.
“Last year, Carrico cleared the way for expanded contestant parking,” explained Billie Ayers of the Plainville Saddle Club. “We couldn’t have done it without them and it allowed us to grow our events.”
According to Ayers, Carrico will be assisting club members with dirt work to improve arena conditions in the event of rain and also to restructure seating and make room for new bleachers.
“Last year’s rodeo was at capacity, so this year we are planning ahead and adding seating across the entire length of the south side and another set of bleachers or two to the north side,” commented Ayers.
The flea market is 9am to 6pm Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday. Carrico Implement’s Ride & Drive Event is Saturday only, 9am to 6pm. Both events are open to the public. If you wish to participate as a vendor, contact Shute (785) 434-3075.
